Language: English
Quality Rating: C/D

Timecoded, No Subtitles
Directed By: Francis Ford Coppola
Starring: Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Laurence Fishburn, Dennis Hopper, Harrison Ford
This rare version of Apocalypse Now is a pre-edit workprint. Those familiar with the film will find this piece of work fascinating. While it doesn't contain all of the footage from the final release of the film, it is full of scenes that were cut. Most interesting is the final hour or so of the tape, from the time that Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) arrives at the camp of Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) - the scenes in this workprint are very bizarre and MUCH different than the final cut!
Some of the footage shown in this version of the movie that never made it to the final cut include:
· Additional raw footage of Martin Sheen's drunken spree in his room; one shot shows him in bed with a Vietnamese girl, and other scenes show him fully nude - including full frontal nudity.
· Additional dialogue between Captain Willard, General Corman and Colonel Lucas (Harrison Ford).
· Additional raw footage of the helicopter attack on the village.
· See the tame tiger WALK by Willard and Chef in the jungle! This footage was edited and sound mixed in to make the moment much more startling in the final version.
· Much more storyline with the Playboy bunnies, including the guys getting some action from the bunnies.
· More dialogue for Mr. Clean (Laurence Fishburn).
· The entire "French Plantation" scene which was omitted from the final version of the film, including a funeral, dinner with the leader of the plantation, and a sexy scene between Willard and a woman from the plantation.
· Some remarkable footage from the part of the film set in Kurtz's camp, including the Montagnard's tribal dance.
· Several scenes with Colby (Scott Glenn, who plays the assassin who preceded Sheen on an identical mission but ended up joining Kurtz's army) which were cut, including a scene where Colby kills Dennis Hopper's character and is turn killed by Willard.
· A completely different series of events occurs at Kurtz's camp, including Willard being paraded around the camp in a cage and tormented in a ritualistic manner.
· A shot where Willard suprises a Montagnard, who picks up a baby as a shield. Willard proceeds to impale them both with a spear.
· The movie ends just before the fatal blow strikes Kurtz.
There is none of the Martin Sheen narration on these tapes, and the music is at times different than in the final version. At times, the sound is very difficult to understand.
Harvey Keitel was originally cast to play Captain Willard but was replaced by Martin Sheen two weeks into the filming. It is rumored that Keitel's scenes appear in this workprint, but we sure couldn't find them.

Apocalypse Now workprint (1979)
